Change the Data Type for an Object Class Property
- Open Genus Studio.
- In the Directory tree, expand the Object Classes folder, and then expand the folder for the Object Class which contains the property. Click the Properties folder. In the table to the right, right-click the property which you want to modify, and then in the shortcut menu, click Change Data Type for Property.
- In the Change Data Type wizard, select a new data type and/or data interpretation for the property. You can also change the data size for data types supporting a size specification.
- Click Next.
- If the property is defined as the primary key for the Object Class, the data type for properties in other Object Classes which reference the Object Class will be changed accordingly to ensure consistency. Affected properties are listed on the ReferencingProperties page. Click Next.
- A consistency check is performed to determine if the change of data type violates the integrity of any object referencing the property. If one or more integrity violations are detected, these conflicts must be solved before you can change the data type. For example, if a numeric property is used in the data calculation for another property, you are not allowed to change the data type to a character based data type. If no integrity violations was detected, click Finish to change the data type.
